The Skogan Pass Hike is a great option for those interested in something a bit more strenuous close to the highway. It is easily accessible from the Trans-Canada Highway and is incredibly close to Canmore. Don’t waste your time driving long distances to get to great views, when you can make a quick stop and get moving right away on the route to Skogan Pass.
Getting there
Take exit 98 off the Trans Canada Highway in Dead Man’s Flats. Head southbound towards the quarry from the exit and join George Biggy Sr Road to reach the day-use area and Mount Lougheed Viewpoint.

From the Mount Lougheed Viewpoint, follow the Skogan Pass track on the left. Gain elevation gradually as you hike towards the pass. The path is clear and easy to follow, making this steady uphill effort less technical than routes of similar statistics. Views begin to grow as you make your way up to the pass, and you will be greeted with expansive views when you reach your objective.
