Åreskutan is the most famous hike in Åre. The hike takes you up to the biggest mountain in the village. From the central square in Åre, hike through forest, brooks, over 3 mountain tops, above the tree line and with a 360 view on the top. You see mountains in Norway, Härjedalen and Sylarna.
Getting there
This hike starts and ends on Åre Torg right in front of the house “Åre Butiken” also the start of “Åre Bergbana”. You can search on: “Torggränd 1, Åre” on Google maps.

Route Description for Åreskutan
Here you go up behind Åre funicular and up on a gravel trail until you come to Fjällgården. There you will follow trail 215 up to Totthummeln. Half way up you will come to a nice view that is called “Nalleklippan”. This is a perfect first water break with nice views over Åre. Through the forest and many brooks with really clear water!
You will finally reach Totthummeln with miles of magic views over mountains. Here is also a windbreak.
In front you will see a house, from there you will go left behind the house and coming to the mountain part over brooks and cliffs. The further up you go, the more miles of views you will see. When reaching the top, you come to the red house called“Åreskutans toppstuga.” There are benches here and a 360 view over to Norway.
You can return the way you came or follow trail 214 which goes straight down. Both of them ends at Åre Torg. If you follow the GPS track the way back, you will go the same way down but when you come from Totthummeln the track will take some new paths through the forest.
Insider Hints
When you come to the end on Åre square a little tip is to go straight down to Holiday Club and take a sauna. To end a day on the top, on top!
One of the world’s best restaurants "Fäviken" has a place on the backside of Åreskutan. There is also a pop-up restaurant in the Åre square called “Krus”, “Uvisan” and “Svartklubb”. If you don´t find it, ask the locals. The restaurant is a little secret.
