Caldron Peak Trail Description

The trail to Caldron Peak begins at the Peyto Lake viewpoint. Hike past the wooden platform and take the trail on the right down towards the lake. You will descend a few hundred metres here and begin traversing to the left towards the back of the lake.

Come down to the gravel flats and follow the trail here before crossing Peyto Creek. A bridge once existed here and was washed out years ago. Cross carefully and be prepared for deep, swift waters. Follow the lateral moraine to the left of the waterfalls. This is the outflow of Caldron Lake. Continue up the moraine until you come to a junction. Take the trail to the right, which leads to Caldron Lake. The trail on the left leads to Peyto Glacier, which is a great side-trip.

Follow the trail to Caldron Lake and take the path on the right of the lakeshore. Caldron Peak stands tall above the lake. Scramble up the scree slopes to the summit of Caldron Peak!
