Route Description for Fish Creek East to West
The Fish Creek East to West biking trail is a fantastic ride, cycling from one end of the park to the other, alongside babbling Fish Creek.
Set out on your cycling adventure from Votier’s Flats, though to be honest you could park in any of the parking lots that serve this section of Fish Creek Park. You’ll immediately ride on the bike path and head to the right (west). This is great forested ride to start, which will transport you to feel as if you’re biking in the mountains (and not in the heart of suburban Calgary).
Follow as the paths braid together— there are a couple of routes, so don’t sweat it if you get off track.
Cross a few bridges over Fish Creek and at the major Y-junction, take a left and head up towards Marshall Springs, going through a path that at times can be flooded due to beavers, so proceed with caution. Don’t be surprised if you need to turn back, as the path can be severely impacted.
the path back that way you came and at the next Y-junction, veer left, connecting with a route that takes you to Bebo Groove.
At Bebo Grove, go left and head out towards Shannon Terrace. Head past Shannon Terrace Amphitheatre, where you’ll follow a loop in the trail before beginning to peddle uphill towards Fish Creek Blvd. We added a climb out of Shannon Terrace for an extra challenge, but then you can enjoy an easy glide back down and retrace your steps heading east.
Head back past Bebo Grove and where the trail splits at a Y-junction, head left until the trail reconnect with the trail you originally set out on. Continue past Votier’s Flats and soon the path comes to a junction where you’ll head left.
Peddle along the trail, staying to the left, until you reach a T-junction. Go right over a bridge crossing Fish Creek and then left on a path that goes under Macleod Trail.
Follow the paved bike path, as it heads east along a path following a prairie river and eventually reaches Bow Valley Ranche. Stop here for an ice cream or coffee from Annie’s.
Return the way you came.
