Route Description for Bow River from Inglewood to Edworthy

The Bow River from Inglewood to Edworthy biking trail is a fantastic clockwise route. Start at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary and head out along the Bow River Pathway, taking in the many highlights of Calgary.

Start by parking near Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, but you can honestly park anywhere along the route if it’s easier for you.

From Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, cycle along the river, under 17 Ave. SE and peddle through peaceful Pearce Estate Park and Inglewood River Promenade Park. Then divert onto 15 St. SE in Inglewood, one of Calgary’s historical communities. Continue along St Monica Ave. SE, crossing over New St. SE, until the road turns into a small path.

Follow the path, crossing over the Elbow River and come to Fort Calgary, the original fort of the area. Follow the RiverWalk path along the Bow River and go past the neighbourhood of East Calgary, a new part of the city towering with condos.

Here, you can find the Simmons building, which has a great café (Phil & Sebastian), bakery (Sidewalk Citizen) and restaurant (Charbar), and is worth a stop now or on your way back home.

This part of the ride is vibrant with the bustle of downtown core, and soon you’ll come into Sien Lok Park, which flanks Calgary’s Chinatown.

Continue on the pathway, and enter the Eau Claire area. Go slow here, this popular place is crowded.

Continue on the pathway, passing the scenic Peace Bridge and then heading out of downtown.

You will ride west, staying on this side of the Bow River. After passing below Crowchild Trail NW, you are on a less visited part of the Bow River Pathway.

When you come to a gravel parking lot, you’ve reached the edge of Edworthy Park, go right and cross over rail tracks through the park, and then onto a bridge crossing the Bow River. Angel’s Café on the other side of the bridge is another popular place for a coffee break.

Go right and follow the path back along this side of the river. This part of the path can be crowded on weekends, so go slow if there are a lot of people.

Follow the Bow River Pathway all the way back, taking in the great views of the Bow River.

Follow the Bow River Pathway under Crowchild Trail NW and into Poppy Plaza, where you can stop and see the Calgary Soldiers Memorial. Continue onwards, passing the Peace Bridge once again.

Finally cross over the George C. King Bridge into St. Patrick’s Island Park, perhaps stopping here to explore the trails or rest under a shaded tree. Then ride to St. George’s Island and cross back over the Bow River on 12 St. SE and into Inglewood River Promenade Park, following the path you came out on.

Go left on 15 St. SE and follow the road through Inglewood River Promenade Park back to the Bow River Pathway along the Bow River and return to your car.
