Recently switched to a one-way, uphill only trail, Ben’s near Bend is the quintessential cross-country climbing trail from Phil’s Trail. Don’t worry, short descent and fun features frequently break up the gentle climb. A plus is you won’t see as many bikes on this trail.

Route Description for Ben’s Trail

The obvious trailhead is located behind the washroom, near the pump track. Begin to the right with signs for Ben’s Trail. This is a one-way climbing trail that is often used to access other trails like Whoops, or in conjunction with other trails to form a cross country style loop.

The trail initially is quite flat, and is easy to gain speed on. You will wind around pine trees and encounter a few optional features that may interest more advanced riders. After passing the dirt jump line, however, the trail will start to climb. After a bit of climbing you will reach a junction with the MTB trail, where you will continue straight to head along Ben’s.

The trail will level off a bit, with only sporadic climbing sections. One of the more interesting bits includes two rocky switchbacks to gain a ridge, which can be challenging for the grade. You will reach another junction with a trail that connects to Kent’s Trail, where you will once again continue straight along Ben’s

After a final climb you will meet up with a logging road. This is the end of Ben’s Trail, and allows you to connect with other trails such as Lower Whoops, Kent’s, and Phil’s trails.

Insider Hints

  • Connecting Ben’s Trail with Phil’s is arguably the most classic one-way cross-country loop in the trail system!

Ben's trail is a lighter one, good for beginners. Gives a chance to see nice areas too. The elevation is going lightly up, so it's not too bad. I enjoyed it.
