Inside the quiet Kolob Canyon area of Zion National Park, the Taylor Creek Trail runs beside the middle fork of the Taylor Creek. Leading in between stunning sandstone lined cliff faces, this gorgeous hike pays homage to the Double Arch Alcove at its terminus.

Route Description for Taylor Creek Trail

The trail descends quickly down to the river, along a somewhat steep set of wooden steps. Soon you will reach the creek and veer right, following the dirt path as it winds beside the river. You will pass over the river quite a few times along this trail, however all the crossings are very easy. The trail slowly gains elevation throughout its whole length, but also ungulates up and down.

You will pass by two old cabins along the trail. First you will pass the Larson Cabin early on in the hike, then the Fife Canyon as you near the end. These were both built when the Kolob Canyons area was not incorporated into the central park, back in 1930. Today the cabins are now protected sites, with signs requesting you not to disturb.

As you hike you will soon enter an absolutely stunning canyon. With sheer sandstone cliffs lining each side, this finger canyon is incredible. Fantastic views start to permeate your entire field of view as you meander up through the lush flora.

Luckily, the entire trip is well shaded by dense large trees – ideal for hot sunny days. The smell and ambient moisture is also a nice break from the monotony of the dry desert! Finally you will reach the Double Arch Alcove, an impressive amphitheatre in the rock. This was formed by seeping water undercutting the rock and eroding the week sandstone.
