Ice Lake and Little Gibbon Falls Hiking Loop Description

A hike to Ice Lake and Little Gibbon Falls is a lovely way to escape the crowds of Yellowstone and enjoy the Wyoming wilderness with loved ones. In the early summer, this trail can be quite buggy. We suggest bringing bug spray or wearing long layers to combat the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes won’t be the only critters you’ll see on this hike. The Ice Lake and Little Gibbon Falls circuit is a great place to see moose and a wide variety of birdlife. Whether you are checking out this trail as a day hike or planning to spend a few nights camping at one of the campsites along Ice Lake, this trail is the perfect place to enjoy peace and quiet in the beautiful backcountry of Yellowstone National Park.

Beginning at the Wolf Lake Trailhead, follow the Wolf Lake Trail northeast across the Gibbon River, then take the trail on your left to hike to Ice Lake.

Enjoy your time exploring around Ice Lake. When you are ready to head home, follow the trail to the west end of the lake to a divide. At this divide, take the path on your left to hike south down to Norris Canyon Road. Hike along the road heading east for less than half a mile to wind up back at the Wolf Lake Trailhead where you began.
