Agate Creek Trail Description

The Agate Creek Trail is a great way to explore the wonders of Yellowstone National Park. This is a long hike. If you plan to hike the whole distance in one day, start early in the morning, so you don’t wind up finishing in the dark. There is not a whole lot of shade along this trail, so wear sunscreen and a good sunhat, and pack more water than you think you’ll need. With low-traffic year round and incredible views throughout, the Agate Creek Trail is a great place to spend some quality time in the peace and tranquility of the Wyoming wilderness.

Beginning at the Specimen Ridge Trailhead, follow the Specimen Ridge Trail southeast for 2.3 miles to a divide. At the divide, take the path on your right to follow the Agate Creek Trail south to the Agate Creek Campsite.

At the campsite, turn around and retrace your steps back to the Specimen Ridge Trailhead where you began, or set up the tent for a restful night under the stars.
