Raft Lake Trail Description
Immerse yourself in the backcountry and reconnect with nature as you hike the Raft Lake Trail. This incredible excursion offers a diversity of scenery, including various wildlife and vegetation. While unlikely, bear encounters are possible, so make sure at least one person in your group carries a can of bear spray. Additionally, this route travels through the Wind River Roadless Area on the Wind River Reservation, so ensure you attain the appropriate permit before heading out. Note this path is poorly signposted, so make sure you download the trail GPS before your departure.
Embark on your adventure from the trailhead off St. Lawrence Ranger Station Road. Setting out from here, you will be guided westward along the St. Lawrence Ranger Station Road into the wilderness. As you wander through the mixed pine woodlands, it is important to be mindful of wildlife. Using the trail GPS, the consistently climbing path will lead you into a swathe of meadowlands. Rewarded with views of the Winds from here, the path will begin to descend towards Raft Lake.
Mind your footing on the increasingly rocky terrain, and you will pass the Twin Lakes before ultimately arriving at Raft Lake. Enjoy the lovely alpine scenery and rejuvenate your tired feet in the chilly alpine waters. To get back to the trailhead, simply head back the way you came.
