Pilot Bay Peninsula Trail Description

With easy-to-navigate terrain and amazing views of Kootenay Lake, the Pilot Bay Peninsula Trail is a scenic hiking route in BC that you won’t want to miss. The trail sets out into the dense cover of the forest and follows a path that skirts along the edge of Kootenay Lake, providing several amazing viewpoints from which hikers can gaze out over its picturesque surface and the surrounding mountains in the backdrop. Along the trail, you will also find several optional paths that branch off and lead down to a few access points right on the water.

Continuing along the main trail, you will eventually reach a series of junctions that will take you deeper into the forest. Keep left at these forks to begin a climb uphill through the beautifully atmospheric forest landscape, leaving the eastern shore of Kootenay Lake behind you. While there are no real scenic views along this upper portion of the trail, you will instead be able to enjoy the relaxing and peaceful nature of the forest, as you stroll amongst the countless trees. After reaching the end of the trail, head back down along the same route to either spend some time by the edge of the water or head back to your vehicle at the trailhead.
