Merry Loop Description
Although the Merry Loop is a shared trail among hikers and mountain bikers, you will still be able to relax and enjoy the peaceful forest atmosphere as you stroll along this moderate woodland circuit within the Selkirk Mountains. As there are a number of intersecting trails along the route, it would be a good idea to bring either a trail map or GPS in order to stay on the correct path.
The route sets out from the side of Merry Creek Forest Service Road and immediately enters into the forest. This lower portion of the hike has some sections of cleared trees that will provide some nice views over the surrounding area. Once you pass through these sections of intermittent tree cover, you will re-enter the dense forest until you reach the top of the trail. Here, you will come to another small clearing that will provide views across the valley and the city of Castlegar below. After taking in the views, head back down the trail and keep right at the junctions in order to follow a slightly different route to the trailhead.
