While this is a short hiking route, be aware that there will be some off-trail hiking required through some rugged terrain.

The starting point for this hike can be found along Forest Road 27 at the junction with Forest Road 663.

Short and scrambly, the Mining Overlook and Caves Hike is a fun adventure for those who want to get off the beaten path and explore some interesting rock formations. Be sure to wear proper hiking footwear to better traverse the terrain.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the northeast, steadily gaining elevation as you hike past towering trees to reach the caves. After a bit of rugged climbing, you can explore the caves and gaze out across the beautifully scenic landscape of Umpqua National Forest. Once you have thoroughly explored the area, head back along the same route to return to the trailhead.
