The Roosevelt Cemetery and Arizona Trail Short Loop combines a historic cemetery with a small stretch of the Arizona Trail for a quick, easy hike that’s good for all skill levels. The cemetery, which overlooks Theodore Roosevelt Lake, is the final resting place of about 75 former residents of the town of Roosevelt. Some were killed in the construction of the dam on the lake.
This route begins off Main Street, crossing the creek and keeping right where the Arizona Trail breaks off on the left. You’ll zig-zag over two creeks, keeping left where the trail splits to hike through the loop. Since you’ll be in a historic site, remember to take only photos and leave only footprints.
