Jacob’s Crosscut Trail is an important route in the network of trails in Lost Dutchman State Park. This route is used in lots of other loops and adventures, like the hike to Praying Hands and Slot Rock, so it’s often hiked in addition to other trails, but you can also use it as an out and back hike. Most skill levels will be capable of completing this route. As with most hikes in the Phoenix area, you won’t want to attempt this adventure in the scorching summer months. Bring lots of water and slap on some sunscreen before heading out on the trail.

Jacob’s Crosscut Trail Description

Jacob’s Crosscut is one of the main routes in the network of trails in Lost Dutchman State Park. It’s an essential part of many different loops and is used by many hikers to reach other trails. It can also be hiked on its own from the trailhead to the base of The Flatiron. The out and back trip is moderately difficult and fairly busy.

Before setting out, make sure you’re prepared with sunscreen, a hat, and lots of water. This trail isn’t very well marked. Download your GPS route to help you find your way.

From the trailhead, go right to get onto Jacob’s Crosscut. There are more junctions between the trailhead and the base of the mountain where the route ends than we can name, but attention to your GPS will help get you through. Since this is a well-travelled route, you’ll generally want to follow the most well-defined path towards The Flatiron and Peak 5024, which is where this route ends.
