Highland Lakes Campground to Arnot Creek Hike Description

Immerse yourself in the High Sierra along the Highland Lakes Campground to Arnot Creek Hike. Offering wonderful views and a great nature walk, this scenic excursion can be enjoyed by the whole family. Traveling at high altitudes, the weather conditions along this route are extreme. Dress in layers and check the forecast prior to your trek to mitigate getting caught in an afternoon storm. As much of the terrain is exposed, we encourage you to wear sun protection to avoid overexposure. Note a day-use permit is required and can be found at the trailhead.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Highland Lakes Campground to Arnot Creek Trail tracks southeast. The initial segment of the trek will guide you past Upper Highland Lake before guiding you up a steady incline. Winding up a rocky mountainside, you will eventually reach an intersection at the top of the ridge. Keep right here, and the path will dip into the mountain basin below Hiram Peak. Continue hiking, and you will soon climb up a small ridge to the trail’s end.

From here, you will be granted awe-inspiring vistas of Hiram Peak looming above and Arnot the southeast. Marvel in the grandeur of the mountainous wilderness, and when you are ready, retrace your steps along the path back to the trailhead.
