Hermit Valley Hike Description

The Hermit Valley Hike is a unique adventure in the Mokelumne Wilderness that offers wonderful views and a great workout. It is important to note that the entirety of the hike out is downhill, so you better make sure you have some gas left in the reserved for the walk back. Additionally, this route is extremely rocky and uneven in sections, so we encourage you to wear a pair of supportive footwear! Lastly, this excellent hike is almost entirely exposed to the elements, so wear sun protection, check the forecast, and dress accordingly.

Setting out from the trailhead, the Hermit Valley Hike follows the trail west. Immediately after departing the trailhead, the path will begin to descend further into the valley. Continue hiking, minding your footing on the rocky terrain as you admire the encompassing granite bluffs. Soon the path will near the river, rewarding you with sights of the cascades before diverting you away from the banks. At this point, the trail will begin to more intensely descend, ultimately delivering you to Deer Creek.

Dip your toes in the chilly alpine waters and revel in the river valley scene and imposing granite bluffs. When you are rested and rehydrated, begin your climb back up to the trailhead.
