Forest of Bere Walk

If you are going to take part in a walk along the Forest of Bere, you will need to make sure you wear the appropriate footwear as it can get quite muddy here, especially during the winter months. Navigation can also be an issue as there is a lack of signs and large landmarks, so it is easy to get a little bit off track.

The walk through Forest of Bere is great for families and dog owners because of the easy path and is a popular walk among locals. Wander through the English countryside among wildflowers, wildlife and farm lands and get a great workout.

Beginning at the car park, walk straight ahead to the entrance of the path, where there will be a yellow footpath arrow to your right and a BBQ picnic area to your left. You will come across a yellow trailhead sign for Forest of Bere and begin on a wide stone track.

Arriving at a large chestnut tree with a rope swing attached will place you at Major Fork. When you reach this, bear left and follow the main path, and do not get sidetracked by all of the small paths that lead off the main walk. You will come to a crossroads, and you must bear right, following the large wide stone track, and when you reach a small area of fencing, you must cross the creek ahead.

After continuing straight for about 55 yards, take the right option and continue straight at the next junction. You will begin to descend before taking on a rapid ascent,, and you will come across a small path to the right, which you will follow.

You will be led to an area where you will see a grass path, ignore this and head back into the forested area to keep on the path. Some of these areas can be quite muddy, so try to detour a little bit and walk closer to the tree trunks if this is the case.

Follow this path and you will arrive at another crossroads, where you will turn right, and then end up at the same crossroad that you walked through in the beginning, turn left here. You will see a small bench where a “T” shaped junction will appear and you will bear right and follow the path through the woodlands until you reach the last crossroad, where you will turn left. Walk uphill until you reach the end of the trail and will be back where you started.
