The Edward Thomas Memorial Walk takes you through stunning scenery and is full of the famous yew trees. This area is known as Little Switzerland due to its resemblance to the captivating scenery that you normally see in that area of Europe. The walk does have some steep walks uphill, but the views are well worth it.

Getting there

To get to the Edward Thomas Memorial Walk from Petersfield, head South on Tilmore Road toward Station Road, and then take Winchester Road and A272 to Ridge Common Lane in Stroud. After 1.3mi, turn right onto Ridge Common Lane, and then turn left at Church Road. Follow Cockshott Lane to Old Litten Lane for 0.6mi, and arrive at your destination.

Edward Thomas Memorial Walk Description

Exploring the Edward Thomas Memorial Walk will take you on a journey through captivating scenery, through woodlands full of yews and may even remind you of Switzerland. Beginning at the All Saints Church, you will pass through multiple stiles and kissing gates, and then you will arrive at the Ashford Hangers National Nature Reserve. As you walk through this area of woodland, you will be surrounded by yew and beech trees. Continuing through, you will walk up some stairs and through a kissing gate and you will arrive at Cobbett’s view.

After taking this scenery in, you will wander through the village of Steep Marshes and cross Ashford Stream. After you cross this, you will walk through the last area of woodland, through a few kissing gates, and you will arrive back at the All Saints Church where you began.
