Ditchling Beacon Walk

Ditchling Beacon Walk is a stunning stroll full of scenery and incredible views of South Downs National Park. The path of Ditchling Beacon can get muddy and boggy, especially in wetter months or after a heavy rainfall. Make sure to prepare for this and wear appropriate footwear.

The walk takes you through multiple small towns and villages and showcases the captivating scenery around this area. The villages and towns are filled with history and have so many nooks and crannies to explore. The climb up Ditchling Beacon is a bit steep, however, when you reach the top, you will forget about the struggle when you begin to take in the varied landscapes that surround you.

Beginning in Lewes, as you walk, take in the medieval town full of old English churches and alleyways (tiny twittens!). This town is famous for its independent shop retailers and houses Harvey’s Brewery, which is well known around England. As you continue on, you will arrive at Blackcap, which is owned by the National Trust and makes up part of the English countryside in South Downs National Park.

You will then begin to ascend up to Ditchling Beacon. This is the highest point in all of East Sussex and it is also the third highest in all of the South Downs National Park. When you summit the Ditchling Beacon, you will be met with captivating views of Lewes that lies below.

When you are finished taking in the stunning scenery, continue on to the village of Falmer, where the University of Sussex resides. Moving on, you will come across the last village on the path, Kingston, where you can take a break at The Juggs pub and grab a bite to eat. The Juggs is nestled in a 14th century cottage and is run by Kentish Brewer Shepherd Neame.

After you stop for a break, continue along the path until you reach the town of Lewes where you began.
