Getting there

To get to the Butser Hill Walk from Petersfield, get on Liphook - Petersfield Bypass/A3 from Station Road and Winchester Road and after 0.1mi, follow A3 to Chalton Lane. Take the exit toward Buster Hill/Hambledon/Chalton/Clanfield from A3. Take Hogs Lodge Lane, and in 2.8mi you will reach your destination.

Butser Hill Walk Description

The Butser Hill Walk is a family-friendly option that holds a special place in South Downs National Park as it is a National Nature Reserve and holds special scientific interest. After bypassing the visitors centre, you will wander through grassy paths that follow this walk and will begin uphill to Butser Hill. You will come across escarpment views of South Downs National Park along with stunning scenery of the slopes and sea in the distance. On a clear day, you will also catch a glimpse of Black Down.

Continuing on, you will come across bumps in the land, which are the Bronze Age Burial Mounds that date back to 3000-4000 years ago. As you continue, you will be able to see the valley of the River Meon and Grandfather’s bottom will come into view. Follow this path until you reach the same area that you began at.
