Getting there
The access path starts from the Fairy Glen hotel, located on the side of the A470 just before it crosses over the River Conwy. This is just over two kilometres south from the village of Betws y Coed. Signs will point towards the correct place to park.

Fairy Glen Gorge Walk Description
Parking for the Fairy Glen Gorge is based on an “honesty box” system (£1 per adult, £0.5 per child and another £1 for parking). Some visitors report that the owners usually keep a keen eye on arrivals, so we suggest taking this “suggestion” as more of a rule! The fees do go towards maintenance of the site, as it’s located on private land, so it’s worth the cost.
From the car park, a clear path sets off to the south. This path leads through open fields then turns left into woods. Picnic tables provide options to stop – particularly important if you’re with the kids.
Next the path drops down the gorge and brings you to the river’s edge. This descent is the trickiest part of the route. It’s composed of rock slabs which aren’t exactly evenly sized or shaped, and rather steep in parts. Take care especially in wet weather, as these steps can be quite slippery.
Once you’re by the river, you’ll have plenty to see! Here is where the River Conwy drops over a Victorian fish ladder and rushes through the narrow banks of the gorge. There are plenty of little rapids, cascades, and waterfalls swirling around the area. Lush mosses carpet the riverside boulders, and verdant woods reach up on either side. There have even been reporting of otter sightings! Harder to spot are the faeries and sprites who are said to live under the toadstools and only emerge under the cover of night.
The path continues along the river in a counter-clockwise direction. When you’re ready to depart, keep following the path as it rises away from the riverside and back to the north, where it meets up with the track you came in on. Then it’s a simple matter of strolling back to the car park from here.
