Grant Grove and Sunset Trail Loop Description
The Grant Grove and Sunset Trail Loop reveals the best of the best—looming sequoias, beautiful waterfalls, and lake views. Immerse yourself in the wilderness, reconnect with nature and get your steps in. Though this route is open year-round, we encourage you to head out in the spring when the wildflowers that carpet the forest floor blossom and the streams are full! Note areas of this trail are poorly signposted so the trail GPS may prove useful. The park charges an entrance fee of $35USD per vehicle or $20USD per person for pedestrians or cyclists.
Setting out from the trailhead, the Grant Grove and Sunset Loop follows the General Grant Trail to the General Grant Tree—revel in the sequoia’s enormity, then continue trekking around the loop. Travel north past the Gamlin Cabin then turn left at the intersection. Keep left at the following junction, then merge onto the North Grove Trail. Wander through the sequoia grove then connect onto the rightmost Sunset Trail before taking a quick detour out to the Sequoia Lake Overlook. Marvel in the beautiful scene of the lake, then retrace your footing back onto the Sunset Trail.
Follow the Sunset Trail through the woodlands down to Ella Falls. Admire the charming waterfall, then wander the Sunset Trail up to the Sunset Campground. Here, turn left onto the South Boundary Trail. Hike through the campground, then back onto the Sunset Trail, which will ultimately deliver you back to the trailhead.
