Savage Lakes Trail Description

Get out into nature and let the fresh mountain air fill your lungs along the Savage Lakes Trail. This trek presents the perfect opportunity to get the family away from their screens and into the wilderness. Leave the stressors of the real world in the rear-view mirror, as you hike through the forestlands up to the blue-hued lake. Versatile and scenic, you can venture this trek year-round with the help of snowshoes or microspikes after the snow falls. Note: the road to the trailhead is rough and closed seasonally.

Embark on your adventure along the Savage Lakes Trail from the trailhead off North Fork Road. From here, the Savage Lakes Trail tracks northeast up through towering pine woodlands. Following the curves of the North Fork Fryingpan River, the sounds of the gurgling waters will lull you into a state of relaxation. Soon the path will curve southeast and guide you to the lakeshore.

From the shoreline of the alpine lakes, you will be rewarded with awe-inspiring sights of the snow-capped peaks. Revel in the grandeur of the mountainous wilderness and rejuvenate your feet in the chilly waters. When you are ready to return, simply retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
