Lyle and Mormon Lakes Trail Description

The Lyle and Mormon Lakes Trail is an exciting adventure to not one, but two amazing alpine lakes. On a calm day, the glittering waters reflect images of the surrounding mountains, which is a truly breathtaking sight. Get out into the fresh air and leave the stressors of the real world in the rear-view mirror as you venture through the expansive meadows. The exposed terrain here provides incredible mountain views, but can also feature extremely warm conditions in the summer, so be sure to pack sunscreen and a sunhat on warm days! Additionally, it is worth noting that the road to the trailhead is extremely rugged and demands a vehicle with high ground clearance—it is also subject to seasonal winter closures.

Departing from the Lyle Lake Trailhead, track northeast along the Lyle Lake Trail. This path will guide adventurers along through a small pine forest along Lyle Creek, before opening into the meadowlands. As you hike through the meadows, you will be granted amazing views of the encompassing mountains, as well as sights of the vibrant wildflowers that litter the fields. You will eventually pass Lyle Lake, a charming pool that presents a postcard-worthy scene. Rest here, then begin your push up to Mormon Lake.

The trek up to Mormon Lake is increasingly steep and hikers will have to climb up a rocky ridge before arriving at the shoreline. In our option, Mormon Lake presents one of the most breathtaking views within the range. The shimmering lake is encircled by verdant meadows that are dotted with towering trees, and snow-capped peaks line the horizon in the backdrop, making for a truly unforgettable sight. Once you are done reveling in the scenery, retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead.
