Timber Lake Hike Description

Reserved for those with intrepid spirits and experience hiking long treks, the Timber Lake Trail will put adventurers to the test. The paths will weave you between tree shade and vast meadows, where elk and moose are often spotted grazing. Hike alongside a mountain stream which creates a relaxing ambiance with its babbling sounds. This trek is a wonderfully scenic excursion into the Colorado Front Range wilderness. Wear layers as insurance against changing conditions that are common to the high country. Note visitors are required to purchase a park pass to access the trail because it is located within the boundaries of the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP).

The Timber Lake Trail tracks southeast from the trailhead. Hike south alongside the Trail Ridge Road and over Beaver Creek before being diverted beneath the tree shade. From this point forward, the path will weave between forested terrain and vast meadows. Enjoy the diversity of the scenery as you trek this route. As you hike, the trail will follow the curves of the Timber Creek. Eventually, the route will guide you north to the Snowbird dispersed campsites before curving south to Timber Lake.

Explore the shoreline of the shimmering Timber Lake as you make your way around the perimeter. Revel in the mountain vistas and notice Jackstraw Mountain and Mount Ida looming above. When you are done exploring and admiring the grandeur of the snow-capped peaks, retrace your steps along the trail back to the trailhead.
