The Old Mills Trail is a 2.8mi out-and-back hiking route northeast of Kamloops that will take you uphill through the forest for some scenic views looking out over Heffley Lake. Made up of well-maintained trails with ample signage and a good amount of shade, this route is perfect for casual and experienced hikers alike. If you are looking for a longer hike in the area, try utilizing the adjacent network of trails to hike further up embleton mountain for even better views.
Getting there
To reach the parking area for the Old Mills Trail from Kamloops, drive north on BC-5 for 14.7mi and turn right onto Old Highway 5. Continue on for 656ft and turn left onto Tod Mountain Road. Follow this for 11.4mi and turn left to arrive at the trailhead.

Old Mills Trail Description
Hiking the Old Mills Trail is a quick way to get some good exercise in and experience the well-maintained trails and breathtaking scenery that can be found in the landscape of the North Thompson Valley. The trail sets out from the parking area and initially heads north along the road before branching off to the west on a route through the forest. From here, hikers will need to work their way uphill under the shade of the forest canopy and cross over several mountain streams to reach the viewpoint overlooking Heffley Lake and the heavily wooded valley. After taking in the scenic views, make your way back down the same route to return to the trailhead where you began.
