Auchtertyre Farm Walk Description
Admire the ebbs and flow of the River Fillan on the short, scenic Auchtertyre Farm Walk. Located just a 5-minute drive from Tyndrum, this walk is the perfect way to introduce the kids to the beauty of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park on a safe and approachable route. The route also features a stretched on the famed West Highlands Way, with some fascinating historical relics along the way.
To begin the walk, head over to cross the bridge, then make a right turn to join the main path. Enjoy the rushing waters of the Allt Auchteryre as you head towards its confluence with the River Fillan. A lovely stretch through pretty woodlands has you heading downstream and soon opens to views of the twin peaks, Ben More and Stob Binniend, rising triumphantly in the distance. As the wooden bridge over the River Fillan comes into view, refrain from crossing, and instead turn left to continue on a tarmac track that leads to the Kirkton Farm. Once you reach the farm, make a left, joining the West Highland Way for the final stretch. An old overgrown graveyard and the fascinating ruins of St Fillan’s Priory, dating to the 13th century, are yours to explore on this section before continuing along the road which eventually leads back to the Auchtertyre Farm where you’ll re-cross the bridge to return to the car park where the walk began.
