Walking the Troutbeck Tongue Trail is a beautifully scenic adventure in the Lake District that will lead you up to the summit of a small Wainwright. While out on the trail, you will pass through charming villages and walk alongside the winding waters of Trout Beck before arriving at the summit for sweeping views across the lush valley. This walk is perfect for a weekend family excursion.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the Troutbeck Tongue Trail from Windermere, make your way west on Church Street/A591 for 0.6mi and take the third exit at the roundabout onto Patterdale Road. Continue on for 3.1mi and make a sharp left onto Townhead Brow, following it for 200ft to arrive at the trailhead.

Troutbeck Tongue Walk Description
The Troutbeck Tongue Trail is a popular walk in the Lake District for outdoor enthusiasts looking to bag an easy Wainwright with pleasant views that sweep across the lush green landscape of the valley. The trail sets out from Troutbeck village and heads to the northeast along Ing Lane, following it along the waters of Trout Beck before crossing Hagg Bridge into Troutbeck Park. Continue to the north, as the trail will begin to steepen on the uphill climb leading to the summit of Troutbeck Tongue. After taking in the views of the sleepy valley, follow the alternate path down the hillside to meet back up with the main trail and follow it back into the village where you began your adventure.
