The Tarn Hows Walk is a family-friendly excursion that will take you around a scenic lake set in one of the more popular areas of the Lake District. While out on the trail, you will walk around the scenic shores of Tarn Hows and pass through beautiful stretches of woodland terrain that line the edge of the water. As this is a popular walking area for families and tourists to the region, you will likely be sharing the beautiful views with a number of other people.

Getting there

To reach the car park for the Tarn Hows Walk from Hawkshead, make your way north on B5285 for 0.3mi and turn left to continue on for another 0.8mi. Make a right turn here and follow the road for 0.2mi before taking a second right. After 0.9mi, you will find the car park on the left.

Tarn Hows Walk Description

The Tarn Hows Walk is a popular Lake District trail due to the beautifully scenic views and easy to navigate pathways around the lake. The trail sets out from the car park and heads to the northeast, passing through a beautiful stretch of woodland terrain as you work your way around the western half of the lake. Take your time enjoying the stunning views across the water, as you round the northern edge of the lake and pass through the forested expanse of the Rose Plantation. From here, you will continue around the loop along the slopes of a hill on the return leg of the walk back to the car park.
