Neaum Crag to Ambleside Walk

As the Neaum Crag to Ambleside Walk is a point-to-point journey, you will need to make arrangements for a pick-up in Ambleside upon completion of the walk. Additionally, you can complete the walk as an out-and-back by retracing your steps along the same route. Be sure to wear some comfortable footwear, as there are some minor elevation gains along the route.

Whether you are completing this walk as a one-way or a return journey, the views overlooking the surrounding countryside make this a pleasant and picturesque stroll through the Lake District. Along the trail you will traverse the terrain along a number of hills, including Neaum Crag, Crag Head, and Ivy Crag before making your descent into the heart of Ambleside to explore the historic town. This is a quick and easy adventure that is suitable for walkers of almost every skill level.

Setting out from the car park, follow the road south and make a left onto Neaum Crag. From here, keep left along the road for 0.3mi until you meet up with Ellers Brow. Turn right and make an immediate left onto the road, following it northeast for 0.1mi to pass by Tarn Foot Farm.

Pick up the trail on the right and pass through the gate, keeping right for 0.6mi as you work around the foot of Ivy Crag and pass through a series of gates while enjoying the beautiful views across the countryside. When you arrive at a fork in the path, head right and then keep straight until you cross over Troughton Gill.

Continue straight across the hilly terrain for 0.5mi, passing through a series of gates before arriving at Pine Rigg on your left. 0.2mi after passing the buildings, the trail will widen a bit and begin to descend the hillside towards the River Rothay.

After reaching the bridge, cross over to the other side and cross the second bridge over Stock Ghyll, continuing straight for 0.2mi as you cut across Rothay Park. From here, walk along Vicarage Road until you arrive in the heart of Ambleside, where you can explore the shops or grab some refreshments at one of the nearby cafes to celebrate completing the Neaum Crag to Ambleside Walk.
