The Muncaster Fell & Ravenglass Walk is a fantastic adventure in the western part of the Lake District that will take you from Eskdale to the village of Ravenglass. Along the trail, you will experience beautiful views across the English countryside as you traverse the summit of Muncaster Fell and visit the grand Muncaster Castle. This is a point-to-point trail, meaning you will need to make prior arrangements for a pickup in Ravenglass or take the train back to the starting point of the walk at the Irton Road railway stop.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Muncaster Fell & Ravenglass Walk from Eskdale, drive southwest on Smithybrow Lane for 0.4mi and turn left. You will arrive at the trailhead in 360ft. Alternatively, you can reach the trailhead via public transit, as it is located right at the Irton Road railway stop.

Muncaster Fell & Ravenglass Walk Description

The Muncaster Fell & Ravenglass Walk is an amazing point-to-point trail that is popular with Lake District walkers due to the fact that the route begins and ends at a railway station, making the return trip a breeze. The route sets out from the Irton Road railway stop outside of Eskdale and heads to the southwest across the open farmland terrain to climb the slopes of Muncaster Fell. After taking in the beautiful views of the English countryside, you will descend the hillside to the southwest and arrive at the grounds of Muncaster Castle, parts of which date back to the 13th Century. From here, you will head west along the River Esk until you arrive at the end point of the walk in Ravenglass. At this point, you can either explore the quaint village or make your way back to the trailhead via your desired mode of transportation.
