Holme Fell Circular Walk Description
Although the Holme Fell Circular Walk follows a fairly well defined path, there are a number of intersecting trails leading up to the summit viewpoint atop Holme Fell that could make navigation a bit tricky for some walkers. Be sure to bring a trail map or GPS in order to navigate the ascent of the hillside. Additionally, the terrain at the bottom of the hill can be a bit boggy at times, so remember to wear decent walking footwear.
Setting out from the car park, follow the trail east through the forest until it meets up with a road, turning right to follow this to the south. Continue around the foot of Holme Fell, following the trail as it bends to the northeast and passes the calm shores of Yew Tree Tarn to begin the ascent up the hillside. Arriving at the edge of a small body of water, follow the trail to the south and make your way uphill through the boggy terrain, making sure to carefully navigate the network of trails to reach the summit. Here, you will be able to enjoy some beautiful views of Blake Rigg, Wetherlam, and Swirl How to the west, as well as Coniston Water to the south. After taking in the views, make your way north to descend the hillside and arrive back at the edge of the small lake, following the trail west to return to the starting point of the walk.
