The Dove Crag via Kirkstone Pass Trail is a 7.8mi circuit that will see you traverse several summits for views overlooking the surrounding Lake District landscape. While out on the trail, you will climb uphill over Red Screes and Dove Crag, where you will receive stunning views of nearby fells and Rydal Water in the valley below. Parts of this trail can be a bit on the rugged side; however, the trail is well-maintained and suitable for casual and seasoned walkers alike.
Getting there
To reach the Dove Crag via Kirkstone Pass trailhead from Ambleside, head to the southeast on Rydal Road/A591 for 3.6mi and turn left to continue on for 0.2mi. Make a left here onto the A592, and follow it for 5.6mi to find the car park on the left.

Dove Crag via Kirkstone Pass Walk Description
The Dove Crag via Kirkstone Pass Trail is a wonderfully scenic walking route that is popular with Lake District adventurers thanks to the well-maintained paths and sweeping views across the undulating terrain. While out on this walk, you will climb up the steep hillside of Red Screes and continue to the northwest to traverse Little Hart Crag and Dove Crag, all the while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding fells and lakes. Shortly before the summit of Hart Crag, you will follow the trail to the northeast to descend the hillside along Dovedale Beck. After making your way across the valley floor, the trail will turn to the southeast and follow closely alongside Kirkstone Beck to lead you through the pass to the trailhead where you began your adventure.
