Less-travelled than other routes up the mountain, this trail will separate you from the majority of walkers and allow you to enjoy at least a part of the trail in solitude. Coniston Old Man via Goats Water Walk Description

Walking up Conistomn Old Man is a popular activity in the Lake District; however, this alternate route past Goats Water will expose you to the same great views without the throngs of crowds. Setting out from the trailhead, the route will lead you southwest to begin a gradual climb up the hillside before breaking off away from the main trail to the west. Here, you will work along the foot of the hill and climb uphill to reach a corridor flanked by fells on either side that features the calm surface of Goats Water nestled in between. From here, you will make your way north up the steep hillside before turning to the southeast on the ascent of the summit. After enjoying the breathtaking Lakeland views, you will follow the trail down the mountainside to the southeast, eventually arriving back at the trailhead where you started.
