Located right on the edge of the Lake District, Brigsteer Woods is a beautiful walk through a peaceful stretch of woodland terrain. Here, you will make your way past Sizergh Castle before passing through the atmospheric terrain of the wood and walking along a stretch of marsh. The trail here is wide and well-maintained, making it suitable for walkers of nearly every skill level.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Brigsteer Woods trail from Sedgwick, drive southwest for 0.7mi and turn right onto Nannypie Lane, following it for 0.3mi. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto A590 and follow it for 0.2mi before turning right onto Nannypie Lane. After 0.3mi, you will reach the trailhead.

Brigsteer Woods Walk Description

Brigsteer Woods is a popular walking destination just outside of the Lake District due to its beautifully atmospheric setting and charming forest views. The route will take you from the Strickland Arms on a course toward the northwest that passes the grounds of Sizergh Castle before entering into the woods. Here, you will walk through a beautifully forested area that borders a section of marshy landscape before looping around to return to the trailhead.
