Little Ibex Lake Hike Description
The Little Ibex Lake Hike will challenge you physically and mentally. This long and involved hike demands a relentless climb into the mountain cirque—exhibiting a diversity of flora and fauna along the way. Requiring several creek fords and some scrambling, a sturdy pair of hiking boots and trekking poles are highly recommended. It is also suggested that you dress in layers as insurance against changing conditions at high altitudes. Pack plenty of water and download the trail GPS for easy navigation.
Embark on your ascent up to Little Ibex Lake from the #978 Middle Fork Bull River Trailhead off South Fork Bull River Road. Setting out from here, you will be guided through a corridor of cedars. Soon after your departure, you will reach an intersection– swing right onto the #978 Middle Fork Bull River. After intersecting with the North Fork Bull River, the route will divert you northeast, climbing alongside the Middle Fork Bull River. After some hiking, you will reach another unassuming junction, turn right here, cross the streamlet, and use the trail GPS to navigate the unofficial trail.
After maneuvering the steep, winding terrain, you will eventually reach the shoreline of Little Ibex Lake. Be on the lookout for mountain goats here and revel in the majesty of the Cabinet Mountains from the shoreline. Explore the crystalline lake, then head back down to the trailhead the way you came.
