Sand Ramp Trail Description

The Sand Ramp Trail is an incredible way to experience the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Hikers of most skill levels and ages can enjoy this scenic hike. The soft terrain makes for a more challenging trek, but the epic scenery will distract you from your tired legs. Wander through mixed pine forests, juniper fields, and past prickly pear cactus as you revel in Colorado’s topographic diversity. Expect to pay an entrance fee of $25USD for 1-6 passenger vehicles to access all the trails and attractions within the park.

Embark on your adventure along the Sand Ramp Trail from the Point of No Return Trailhead. Setting out from here, follow the Sand Ramp Trail north along the foothills. As you wander, you will likely be in the company of like-minded explorers enjoying the beautiful terrain. Walking north, the path will weave between sparse tree shade and exposed meadowlands. Enjoy the vistas of the rolling dunes and the towering snow-dusted summits.

Intersecting with several alpine streams along the way, you will reach the route’s end near the Medano Pass Primitive Road junction. Here, turnaround and retrace your footing along the path back to the trailhead and parking lot.
