Hiking the Hasley Basin Loop is a great experience in Colorado that will provide some stunning views over the Elk Mountains. While out on the trail, you will hike uphill alongside the East Fork Crystal River, enjoying the scenic views of the surrounding landscape before working your way into the basin. This trail features a moderate amount of elevation gain but isn’t overly difficult, making it ideal for casual hikers looking for a challenge.
Getting there
The starting point for the Hasley Basin Loop can be found at the West Maroon Trailhead on FS 317, roughly 1.5mi north of Emerald Lake.

Halsey Basin Loop Description
Whether you plan on summiting a nearby peak or are solely looking to explore the scenic terrain of the basin, the Hasley Basin Loop is an excellent trail if you want to explore the stunning landscape of the Elk Mountains without encountering too much difficulty.
Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the northeast alongside the banks of the East Fork Crystal River and begin climbing uphill. Here, you will have views of the forest on your right and the rugged mountains to the left.
After walking alongside the river, you will branch off to the northwest and begin climbing more sharply uphill, taking some time to enjoy the increasingly beautiful views of the Elk Mountains, before arriving at the edge of the Hasley Basin. Take a few moments to rest up, before heading downhill to the southwest on the return to the trailhead where you started.
