The out-and-back trip on the North Cooking Lake features a quaint lake that is located just outside of Elk Island National Park. If you are passing through the area, this is a great option to stop for some fresh air. The trail is easy to follow and manageable for all abilities.
Getting there
From Elk Island National Park, make your way to North Cooking Lake trail by travelling westbound on AB-16 from the park. Turn left onto Range Road 210, and right onto Wye Road. Continue here until you find signs for a turnoff to North Cooking Lake on the left.

North Cooking Lake trail is a great hiking trail located in the North Cooking Lake Natural Area. It is a popular spot for bird watching and other wildlife sightings. The simple trail leads southbound from the parking area through varied terrain to the lake. Turn back at the lake to head back to where you started.
