The Swan Falls Loop is a difficult 9.4mi route that climbs up steep sections of trail near Swan Falls to reach Mount Beautiful, Tangled Summit, and Eagle Mountain. Due to the steep drop offs and technical nature of the hike around the falls, this route is only recommended for experienced hikers. While the route is physically demanding, the views that you will have from Mount Beautiful are every bit worth the struggle.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the Swan Falls Loop from Coquitlam, drive west along Barnet Highway/BC-7A and take the exit toward Lansdowne Dr. Continue on for 1.2mi and make a left turn onto Honeysuckle Ln. Make a right turn onto Noons Creek Dr after 2461ft and a left onto David Ave. Keep on David Ave for 0.7mi and turn right on Forest Park Way. Making the first left onto Aspenwood Dr, follow for 1.6mi as it turns into E Rd. Turn right on Sunnyside Road, keeping on it for 1.7mi to reach the parking area on your left.

Swan Falls Loop Trail Description
The Swan Falls Loop Trail is a difficult hike that should only be undertaken by experienced hikers. The section of the trail along Swan Falls requires good fitness and balance in order to safely climb the steep slopes, and the wet/icy conditions that can be frequently found in the area leave little room for error. Make sure to wear proper equipment, such as crampons or microspikes to combat any icy trail conditions. Additionally, hikers along this route will need to manage their time wisely, as the gates to the area will close overnight and any vehicles will be locked in.
Although portions of this trail are very technical, they also offer some of the best views of the surrounding area. The Swan Falls themselves aren’t overly spectacular, but the view from on top of the falls is a truly awesome lookout over Buntzen Lake. Similarly, the sights from Mount Beautiful are hard to beat as they offer a panoramic view of Mt. Baker, Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley and the Indian Arm on a clear day. Along Eagle Ridge, there are also a number of beautiful lakes and scenic lookouts that can be experienced, making this hike truly one of the best in the area.
Setting out from the parking area, follow the Buntzen Lake Trail as it skirts alongside the eastern side of the lake. After passing by North Beach, follow along the Powerline Road to pick up the Swan Falls Trail on your right. From here, make your way up the steep climb to Swan Falls to enjoy the beautiful views over Buntzen Lake. Continue your uphill climb as the trail heads east toward Mount Beautiful.
Turn right at the junction with the Halvor-Lunden Trail to reach the summit of Mount Beautiful. After taking in the exceptional panoramic views, continue south along the ridge, past the Tangled Summit and through the “Lakes District” near Eagle Mountain. Keep on the trail as it skirts around Eagle Mountain and descends back down the trail to the parking area next to Buntzen Lake. If you have any daylight left, make sure to relax by the water and reflect on your epic hike along the Swan Falls Loop Trail.
