Old Harry Rocks via Coast Path Walk Description
While the Old Harry Rocks via Coast Path Walk is a pretty family-friendly adventure, there are still some steep and rugged sections of trail that need to be accounted for. Be sure to wear proper walking boots in order to better traverse the coastal terrain. The trail is also fairly exposed to the elements and an extra layer or windbreaker will likely come in handy. Keep an eye on young children and dogs in areas where there are steep drop offs.
As the easternmost section of the Jurassic Coast, this walk features some truly stunning seaside views, including the three limestone formations of the Old Harry Rocks that include a stump and stack, and are easily recognizable from further along the coast. In addition to exploring this fascinating geological feature, you will also get the chance to walk the Studland and Swanage Beaches, so don’t forget your swimwear if you are looking to spend some extra time in the sun!
Setting out from the car park, you will head to the southeast along Studland South Beach and climb slightly up the hillside on the way to Old Harry Rocks to the east. After taking in the views of the impressive limestone rocks, you will make your way to the southwest and continue to explore the rugged terrain of the coast, where you will eventually round Ballard’s Point on the way into Swanage. Take some time to appreciate the views looking out onto Swanage Bay from the Beach and explore this lovely seaside town, before retracing your footsteps along the trail to return to Studland having completed the Old Harry Rocks via Coast Path Walk.
