Golden Cap Walk Description
As there are some fairly steep stretches of trail on the Golden Cap Walk, you will definitely want to wear some proper walking boots with good support. Additionally, you will likely encounter some livestock along the route, so make sure to keep your dog on a lead at all times to avoid any potential interactions. Lastly, if you are planning to walk this route after a period of heavy rainfall, come prepared to encounter some boddy/muddy stretches of trail.
If you are looking for a fun walking route that features a bit of challenging terrain and beautifully scenic views of the Dorset Coast and English Channel, then you will certainly enjoy the Golden Cap Walk. Climbing up to the summit of Golden Cap will likely get your heartrate up, but there are few trails in the area that will be able to rival the scenic beauty of the seaside views here. Don’t forget to pop into the Anchor Inn next to the trailhead, a dog-friendly pub with great food and drink.
Setting out from the car park in Seatown, you will head northwest through the village and begin climbing uphill across the rugged coastal terrain. The slope here is a bit steep, so take your time and you will find yourself atop Golden Cap in no time. From this amazing summit viewpoint, you will have a sweeping sightline along the coast that reaches out to Charmouth in the west.
After taking in the views, you will head downhill to the northwest and cross over a short stream before arriving at the edge of Muddyford Lane. Head right here along the road and take in the views of St Gabriel’s Wood and Langdon Hill, before turning to the southeast to make your way past Filcombe Wood. Here, you will skirt around the southern edge of Langdon Wood, heading back downhill to the southeast on the return to Seatown where you began the Golden Cap Walk.
