The River Erme, Middlecombe Beach, and Kingston Circular Walk is a stunning route along the coast that provides walkers with some of the best views in Devon. While out walking the trail, you will have an amazing sightline across the English Channel, as well as the River Erme and its estuary. Make sure to keep an eye on dogs and children, as there are some steep drop offs along the cliffs that makeup a good portion of the route.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the River Erme, Middlecombe Beach, and Kingston Circular Walk from the Dolphin Inn in Kingston, head northwest for 115ft and turn left to continue on for another 361ft. Make a right here and continue on for 0.5mi, before turning left. After 0.8mi, you will find roadside parking at Wonwell Beach.

Walking the River Erme, Middlecombe Beach, and Kingston Circular Trail is a spectacular journey along the South Devon Coast that will produce stunning views of the water, making it popular with a wide range of outdoor enthusiasts, from families with children to seasoned adventurers. Setting out from the roadside parking area at Wonwell Beach, you will head to the southwest to walk along the Erme Estuary, enjoying the scenic views across the water as you stroll along the rugged terrain of the coast. Exercise caution in this area, as there are steep drop offs along the cliffside. From here, continue making your way along the shoreline and keep the water on your right, eventually heading inland once you reach Westcombe Beach. Follow the tree-lined stream towards the village of Kingston, where the trail will bend to the west, descending the open countryside on the way back to your vehicle.
