The Heart of England Way - Stow Circular Walk is a fun journey in The Cotswolds AONB that will take you through several historic villages with beautiful scenery in between. While out walking the trail, you will pass through the village of Stow on the Wold and make your way down to the banks of the River Dikler, following it closely to pass through Lower Swell on the return leg of the route. Although there are a few portions of this walk that follow along the road, it is still a scenic adventure that is suitable for walkers of varying ability.

Getting there

To reach the Heart of England Way - Stow Circular Walk trailhead from Bourton on the Water, head to the northeast along A429 for 3.0mi and turn right on Back Walls. Continue on for 0.2mi, where you can utilize roadside parking.

Stow Circular Walk Description

Making up only a small portion of the 100.0mi of recreational trails that are the Heart of England Way, the Stow Circular Walk is a pleasant adventure that will expose you to some of the natural beauty that can be found in The Cotswolds AONB and Gloucestershire county. Setting out from the trailhead, you will exit Stow on the Wold via the road leading south and eventually branch off to the southwest to descend the hillside. After passing by the historic Hyde Mill, you will turn to the northwest and follow along the banks of the River Dikler to make your way through the village of Lower Swell. From there, you will turn to the east and follow along the roadside until it brings you back into the village where you began your adventure.
