Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Monarch’s Way and Newark Park Circular Walk from the Synwell Playing Field, head northeast on West View for 420ft and turn right onto Blackquarries Hill. Follow this for 1.0mi and make a right onto Park Lane. After 0.3mi, make a right and continue on for another 0.3mi to arrive at the parking area.

Monarch’s Way and Newark Park Circular Walk Description

Walking the Monarch’s Way and Newark Park Circular Trail is a great way to get outside and explore a variety of scenic landscapes set within the picturesque Gloucestershire countryside. Setting out from the Newark Park National Trust building, you will make your way east through what was once a Tudor hunting ground to traverse the undulating terrain surrounding Ozleworth. From there, you will cut across the beautifully scenic hillside to the southwest, eventually arriving at the charming village of Hillesley. After making your way through the village, turn to the north to traverse the open farmland on the way to Wortley, where you will be able to explore another lovely village. At this point, you will climb uphill through the forest to the northeast and enjoy some final sweeping views across The Cotswolds landscape before arriving back at the trailhead in Newark Park.
