Walking the Lower Slaughter & Bourton on the Water Trail is a lovely experience in The Cotswolds AONB that will take you between the two of these charming villages for views of the surrounding Gloucestershire countryside. While out on the trail, you will walk along the River Eye and experience the historic sites around Lower Slaughter before walking through the countryside to cross over the River Windrush in Bourton on the Water. This is a fantastic adventure if you enjoy strolling through picturesque country villages.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Lower Slaughter & Bourton on the Water Walk from Stow on the Wold, head south on Fosse Way/A429 for 2.9mi and turn right onto Copsehill Road. After 0.5mi, make a slight right to continue on for 360ft, where you will find the starting point of the walk on the right.

Lower Slaughter & Bourton on the Water Trail Description

If you enjoy charming waterways, historic mills, and lovely country villages, then the Lower Slaughter & Bourton on the Water Walk will be a day well spent on the trails. Setting out from the village of Lower Slaughter, you will head to the south along the banks of the River Eye and cross over to the opposite side to meander through the scenic farmland towards Bourton on the Water. Once you reach this quaint village, you will walk its historic streets and follow along the banks of the River Windrush before turning back to the northeast on the return leg back to Lower Slaughter. Once there, you can explore the town and check out the historic mill that is located right along the water before heading back to your vehicle.
