Red Squirrel to Douglas Fir Trail Description

The Red Squirrel to Douglas Fir Trail is an awesome adventure that travels through tree burn and new vegetation. Decorated with mixed pines, fir trees, granite outcrops, and lush meadows, there is no shortage of scenery. Let the stunning vistas of the cityscape below flanked by foothills serve as you motivate to persist up the steep terrain. Note that the path is rocky and uneven, so wear sturdy footwear and consider bringing microspikes. After a snowfall, we highly suggest wearing microspikes to safely navigate the vertiginous terrain.

Departing from the Red Squirrel Trailhead, the Red Squirrel to Douglas Fir Trail tracks south along the Red Squirrel trail through the meadowlands. Gradually climbing since departing the trailhead, the path will soon enter the woodlands before reaching an intersection with the Douglas Fir Trail. Here, take the Douglas Fir Trail west, up a forested canyon. As you wander, admire the unique outcroppings that line the path and the remaining chard trees.

Nearing the trail’s culmination, the terrain will become increasingly technical and steep, so take your time and mind your footing. Soon the path will curve north up to the overlook. From here, revel in the sights of the cityscape below and the vast plains. Revel in the scenery, and when you are ready, retrace your steps down the path back to the trailhead.
