Kineo Mountain and Mount Buckhorn via Seven Bridges Trail Description
The Kineo Mountain and Mount Buckhorn via Seven Bridges Trail is one of our favorite adventures near Colorado Springs. Traveling along the Seven Bridges Trail and up to not one but two summits—this trek is epic. Note that few of the trails are unmarked and primitive, requiring some navigational skills or the trail GPS—but that is all part of the fun, in our opinion! The terrain is rocky and uneven in sections, so we suggest a pair of sturdy footwear to mitigate the chances of a rolled ankle! Single-track occasionally; be sure to keep an ear out for passers-by as you meander along the paths.
Your trek along the Kineo Mountain and Mount Buckhorn via Seven Bridges Hike departs from the Gold Camp Trailhead. From here, head west along the Gold Camp Road, passing through a metal gate before merging onto the Seven Bridges Trail. Follow this path through the North Cheyenne Creek Canyon, traveling over seven bridges before reaching an intersection. Take the North Seven Bridge Spur Trail before tracking the unmarked Kineo Summit Trail east. Hike up the primitive path to the rocky summit, which delivers views of the Front Range, including commanding sights of Pikes Peak. Retrace your footing back along the path before continuing your trek north along the North Seven Bridge Spur Trail when you are ready.
At the next junction, veer right, and you will be diverted onto the Jones Park 701 Trail. Wandering east, the route will gradually morph into Captain Jack’s Trail. Hike this path up to the western slope of Mount Buckhorn. Revel in the views of the foothills peeking through the tree breaks, then take the Mount Buckhorn Trail southwest down the mountain. This route will deliver you back to the Gold Camp Road, where you will head east, retracing your footing back to the trailhead.
