The Big Springs Canyon Loop is a fantastic hiking trail in the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. This hike will take you over diverse terrain and offer up incredible views. When hiking keep an eye out for Canyonlands critters, such as jackrabbits, spiny lizards, and snakes!
The name of this trailhead is offensive, efforts to rename sections of Canyonlands National Park are ongoing.
Getting there
From the Needles Visitors Center, follow Needles Main Park Road for 3.0mi then turn off towards Squaw Flat Campground. Take a left at the fork and follow the road for one mile to the Squaw Flat Trailhead.

Big Springs Canyon Loop Description
The Big Springs Canyon Loop is a gorgeous 10.0mi hike through the Utah desert. This trail travels over varying terrain including slickrock, sand, and even a couple of ladders. Proper footwear is essential for this hike. Don’t forget to bring a good sunhat, lots of water, and tasty snacks along with you, this trail really heats up in the afternoon sun. The final piece of gear you’ll need for this hike is a camera—the views from this trail are absolutely stunning.
From the trailhead, follow the path southwest and take a left at Big Springs Campsite #1 to follow the loop clockwise. Stay right at all the following divides until you wind up back at the campsite.
Once you’ve completed the loop, you can either head back to the trailhead or continue exploring the area by hiking surrounding trails such as the Druid Arch Trail or the Chesler Park Loop.
